CLAAS Foundation supports GemüseAckerdemie

Pupils learn that vegetables do not necessarily have to be from the supermarket, but can also grow in their own garden through the “GemüseAckerdemie”. This is an educational program run by Acker e.V. from Berlin. The CLAAS Foundation is also on board and has been providing financial support since 2022.
The aim of the school gardens is to teach pupils to appreciate nature, the production of food and its marketing.
The project is interdisciplinary within the schools. The subjects “Agriculture, nutrition and sustainability”, biology, chemistry, politics and geography can be directly integrated. Computer science, STEM, robotics and physics could be thematically added at a later date. The project is also complemented by corresponding further training for teachers.
“The cross-curricular and cross-grade cooperation also promotes teamwork and interdisciplinary learning,” says the ‘GemüseAckerdemie’ team, explaining the idea behind the project.
The school gardens are each funded for three years, after which they are to be cultivated independently by the pupils.
