Renewable energies at the Meier Osthoff sawmill in Harsewinkel
The Meier Osthoff sawmill in Harsewinkel is establishing itself as a new extracurricular learning location as part of the Walter Blüchert Foundation's “Kreativraum - Probier dich aus!” program. The workshop, which is being implemented together with the CLAAS Foundation and was designed by two teachers from the Evangelisch Stiftisches Gymnasium Gütersloh, Lina Nordemann and Anna-Sophie Johannesmeier, offers pupils the opportunity to learn hands-on and discover important connections in the field of renewable energies.
Dr. Eberhard Nacke, an expert in the field of biological energy production, vividly explains the function of a biogas plant and how it converts organic waste into sustainable energy. The pupils' enthusiasm is always palpable when they understand the biogas production process, which can be used to generate electricity and heat.
As part of the excursion, the pupils have the opportunity to become active themselves. They experiment with various organic substances to find out which ones are suitable as material for the biogas plant. In doing so, they not only learn about the different properties of the materials in a playful way, but also the importance of research into sustainable energy sources.
The excursion to the Harsewinkel sawmill is a successful and educational experience for the pupils, which awakens their interest in renewable energies and focuses on important environmental issues.
