RoboCup

In June 2010 Paul (11 years), Lennard and Malte (both 12 years) were sitting on the plane heading for south east Asia: The three young researchers of the Student Research Centre (SRC) had qualified to participate in the World Cup of Robots in Singapore.

In their luggage they had their fischer technics robot which their had programmed to fulfil the competition’s task. One task was to autonomously drive on a defined course, evade obstacles or go over them, find a „victim“ and to „rescue“ the same.

In a very exciting competition the researchers trio made it to place 19 within a group of 37 teams coming from 14 different nations. They had arrived as the team on place three in the German competitors group and went home second best German team. A welcome success next to all the cultural impressions they had received during their Singapore visit.

The SRC reseachers shared their success with students from the German European School Singapur (GESS): The kids the technology class got a detailed explanation by Lennard which sensors the robot uses.

„Singapore was great!“ said Paul on the last day of their visit. The head of the SRC in Osnabrück, Katja Cullmann, would like to further intensify the contact between the GESS and the SRC: „We would very much like to support the GESS if they wish to participate in the next RoboCup. Our 12 SRC robotics teams are available to answer any questions they might have. We are very much going to remember our stay here and would love to meet the GESS again at the RoboCup-World Championship 2011 in Istanbul!“

There were many fiddly tasks waiting for the SRC students.
