Harsewinkel is awarded educational region

Education is the key to our future. The Town of Harsewinkel and the CLAAS Foundation agree on this and act accordingly. The training institute now officially presented the title “Educational region Harsewinkel“ at the CLAAS Technoparc.

Harsewinkel was awarded educational region: Thrilled about this title were Sonja Stuchtey, Sylvia Looks, Prof. Erwin Neher, Uwe Lütkeschümer and Sabine Amsbeck-Dopheide.

Present were the lady mayor of Harsewinkel Sabine Amsbeck-Dopheide, teachers of school and nurseries, a crowd of children and…. A real Nobel prize winner. Prof. Erwin Neher is bio physician and received in 1991 together with a fellow researcher the Nobel for physiology or medicine. Prof. Neher looked back on his own researcher’s life which also already had started in his early days as a young boy: „Curiosity is the engine for any research work“, he concluded.

Prof. Erwin Neher: „When I was young, there was no such thing as Science Lab. All the more I am happy that today we can offer this chance to our children.“

Sylvia Looks, director of the CLAAS Foundation said: „Natural sciences and engineering topics are on the rise and young people with an affinity for these subjects are much wanted“.

Just hot air? In small experiments the children demonstrated how warm air expands. Warm hands are enough to move a coin on top of a bottle neck.

The CLAAS Foundation got support by the nationwide training centre Science Lab, which vouches for an early promotion of young talents in science and technical matters.

Thanks to the financial support of the Foundation so far teachers of more than 14 Kindergartens and six schools took part in the Science Lab trainings aiming to raise the children’s interest in natural phenomenons.

The mayor of Harsewinkel Sabine Amsbeck-Dopheide and Frau Braun-Werthebach, Head mistress of the Astrid-Lindgren-School also held speeches. Sonja Stuchtey, co-founder of Science Lab stressed: „It is always fascinating to see how swiftly the young kids gain knowledge.“

About Science-Lab

Science-Lab is an independent, non-profit training centre which aims to open up a life-long and self-contained learning process to today’s children. They offer training based on topics of natural science, technique and environment.  Here not only knowledge in itself is conveyed, but rather methods how to learn. This is how children turn into “Want to know-people”. Further information on: www.science-lab.de.
