Pupils Award 2010

Outstanding achievements acknowledged

With more than 600 people- pupils, teachers, parents and sponsors- the auditorium of the University of Paderborn was full to the brim. For the forth time the University of Paderborn awarded pupils of the 9th and 10th grade for their great performances in natural science subjects such as biology, chemistry, maths and physics.

The president of the university Prof. Dr. Nikolaus Risch addressed the group of approximately 300 best pupils who were pleased about their prize money of 75 Euro and an official certificate. „This award is to show you that it is worth it to work hard at school. It is vital to find joy in good performance and to be motivated getting prepared for your future jobs in engineering and science.“ Prof. Risch promotes the MINT subjects (Maths, Informatics, Science and engineering), which open up a route to attractive conditions as there is a great need for natural science disciplines. He also encourages the pupils to start a degree in the region of Eastern Westphalia: „As good performers you can receive a scholarship of 300 Euro per month. Last year our bursary office presented 250 scholarships. Maybe this pupils award today serves as a good starting point for a future student scholarship.“

The CLAAS Foundation invites to the "Day of Agriculture"

54 of the awarded pupils and their teachers visited CLAAS on the „Day of Agriculture”. They found out the meaning of agriculture for the feeding of the growing world population and that the today’s agriculture works with the latest technical equipment. The technique affine pupils experienced firsthand combine harvesters, tractors and self-propelled forage harvesters. All information the pupils received during this day were then profitably invested into a competition. As there was more than one correct questionnaire in the end fortune had to decide: Kristina Martaler, Marina Bonke and Guido Schäffer won a voucher of the CLAAS Shop.
